Another Use for Printers?
Children in a kindergarten class at a Montana elementary school were given the opportunity to take apart a broken printer as part of their free periods during the school year. Using tools such as screwdrivers assists them in use of fine motor skills as well as giving them the opportunity to explore and learn how the printer works. This is part of a growing trend of “un-makerspace” where children are given the opportunity to dismantle a device in order to see how it works.
An article reported that 90 percent of UK office workers experience elevated stress levels when dealing with troublesome technology. Starting children out learning about technology at such an early age can either help these children be less stressed when technology issues impact their work or it could provide an outlet for the children to take out their technology frustrations on a broken printer.
