Toshiba Releases 2014 Earnings After Investigation

Toshiba has been plastered all over the news after a report from the Independent Investigation Committee, launched after an internal investigation into the appropriateness of the percentage-of-completion accounting method used by the company for infrastructure projects discovered that costs had been underestimated and losses not reported in a timely manner. The Independent Investigation Committee found that profits had been overstated in “institutional” accounting irregularities. This discovery led Toshiba to restate its earnings. These restated earnings were released on September 10.

Page-wide Technology Getting a Lot of Attention

Last month, Memjet announced a patent infringement lawsuit against the Hewlett-Packard Company. The suit alleges infringement of eight Memjet patents related to its page-wide “waterfall” printing technology. Memjet is seeking to prevent HP from further use of the allegedly infringed technology and is also looking to receive damages resulting from HP’s use of the technology in its PageWide printer products. While Memjet must feel they have a case against HP – Memjet has not been a company that pursues insignificant court cases – it is still likely to be an uphill battle to pursue this case.
