“Valuing People, Supporting Personal Best”
Such is the tagline for Shelley College located in Shelley, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, U.K.. Unfortunately, Shelley College was taken for a ride by two of its Information and Communications Technology (ICT) employees as reported by The Huddersfield Daily Examiner by way of RT Recycling Times.
Two of its employees stole close to £100,000 ($122,000) worth of Samsung hard drives, Intel i7 microprocessors, toner cartridges (worth in excess of £44,000 ($54,000)), and other associated equipment “not even compatible with equipment used in the school.” This event brought to light once again the importance for organizations to ensure proper checks and balances.
Shelley College showed full trust in these two individuals and in the end all they could show for that trust was major loss. Companies need to be concerned about situations like this and, in the same way, counterfeit ink and toner cartridges that can ‘steal’ money by causing inoperable and damaged printer equipment.
